Rapid Response & Crisis Communications

A large crowd of people participating in a protest or rally on an urban street, with some holding signs including a cardboard sign with a power symbol crossed out, and another shaped like a sunflower. The crowd is diverse, with some wearing jackets and hats, and buildings line the street in the background.

Senior communications support for critical crisis situations, deployed where the work is happening - anywhere in the world.

Crisis & risk management

Serious incidents rarely remain local. An operational failure, regulatory decision or community dispute can quickly involve governments, investors, employees, international media and affected communities.

Navigantium provides senior communications support during complex and fast-moving situations. We deploy into the operating environment, establish the facts and manage the communications workstream alongside leadership, legal counsel, security teams and local advisers.

When is rapid response communications needed?

Organisations may require additional support when an incident exceeds the capacity of their existing communications team or demands specialist experience on the ground.

This can include:

  • Operational incidents, accidents and shutdowns

  • Mine closures and asset transitions

  • Environmental damage or allegations of harm

  • Community opposition and loss of local support

  • Sudden regulatory or political intervention

  • Conflict, civil unrest and humanitarian emergencies

  • Hostile media, disinformation and coordinated online activity

  • Cyber incidents, extortion and cross-border legal disputes

  • Market entry, withdrawal or restructuring in sensitive jurisdictions

Our role

Our first task is to establish what has happened, who is affected and where the immediate risks lie. We then put in place a clear communications structure covering decisions, responsibilities, messages and stakeholder contact.

Depending on the situation, our work may include:

  • On-the-ground communications leadership

  • Incident assessment and stakeholder mapping

  • Communications strategy and message development

  • Government, community and institutional engagement

  • Media management and spokesperson support

  • Employee and contractor communications

  • Investor and corporate communications

  • Monitoring of media, online narratives and emerging threats

  • Misinformation response and information defence

  • Executive briefings and decision support

  • Recovery planning and operational handover

Extractives and critical infrastructure

Oil, gas, mining, energy, logistics and infrastructure operators work across complex political, regulatory and community environments. We support organisations during industrial incidents, environmental disputes, operational shutdowns, mine closures and sudden changes in government policy.

International institutions and humanitarian organisations

Conflict, displacement and natural disasters create intense public and political scrutiny. We support NGOs, multilaterals and humanitarian organisations with press relations, public information, stakeholder coordination and responses to hostile or misleading narratives.

Corporate, legal and private client matters

Cross-border disputes can place organisations and individuals under immediate reputational pressure. We work with boards, legal advisers, investors and private principals during litigation, cyber incidents, regulatory investigations, ownership disputes and other sensitive matters.

How we work

Rapid response assignments are led by Darren Lewis. We can deploy independently or join an existing team, working alongside the client’s executives, advisers and local partners.

Our work combines communications, intelligence, geopolitical analysis, reputation management, research and technology. This provides leadership with a clearer understanding of the situation and a practical communications response.

Engagements may cover the immediate response, a defined phase of an operation or the full period from preparation through recovery.
